THE SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENT

A Copper Oxide Fabric (Copper Oxide impregnated in Polypropylene nonwoven spunbond) was successfully developed by Israeli scientists for medical wound dressing and was proven to be safe and effective against viruses and bacteria. This scientific achievement, backed by over 30 registered patents, was approved by the FDA in 2018. Leveraging this achievement, a special technology (patented and licensed) of applying copper oxide into a non-woven medical facemask was invented and successfully applied.

With the recent COVID-19 Pandemic, MedCU, using it patented material developed the first medically certified active masks to protect against corona virus made of oxidized copper, which is now sold worldwide.

The active masks developed by MedCu allow, in addition to filtration, also the killing of viruses and bacteria. After wearing a regular mask, when exposed to viruses, the mask becomes a contaminated item when viruses such as the corona can survive on it for days. The use of MedCu technology makes it possible to destroy the viruses within minutes of contact with the mask, thus significantly reducing the chance of infection or contagion. The combination of copper in the mask fabric gives the mask a unique orange-pink color.

Ph.D Gadi Borkow

MedCU breakthrough technology is led and developed by Ph.D Gadi Borkow.

Mr. Borkow obtained is Ph.D. in the Tel Aviv University, Israel on 1994. His post-doctoral studies were conducted at McGill University during which he specialized on HIV-1. In1998 Dr. Borkow joined the Hebrew University AIDS Center, where he studied virological and immunological aspects of HIV-1 infection.

Since 2004, Dr.Borkow is the Chief Medical Scientist of Cupron Inc. and since 2017 is also the Chief Scientist and co-founder of MedCu Technologies Ltd. Dr. Borkow haspublished over 130 peer reviewed manuscripts that have more than 5000 citations.

Dr. Borkow serves as a reviewer of more than 50 scientific journals and is in the Editorial Board of six scientific journals.

Dr. Brokow is a member in the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), and in the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA).

ANTI-BACTERIAL EFFECTS OF COPPER OXIDE

Leveraging the power of copper, Scientists today have scientifically formulized the unique virtues of cooper to medical instruments to fight Viruses, Bacteria, and different infections.

HOW IT WORKS

Functionality and Property of copper oxide (CU2O): Copper is a known antiviral and antibacterial microbial material. The element dramatically affects bacteria through ions that damage bacterial cells. Copper is registered with the EPA as a public-health antimicrobial product because of its proven antiviral features. When bacteria and copper ions come into contact, the copper ions weaken the outer membrane of the bacteria cell through the process of oxidation.

Copper is toxic to the inside of the bacteria cell and, eventually, the copper ions cause the cell to rupture. The cell then loses its vital structure and finally dies. Copper has multiple pathways to damage the virus & bacteria. That makes it more difficult for viruses & bacteria to become resistant to its powerful effect.

Furthermore, research published at the end of 2015 by the University of Southampton has found copper can effectively help to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses (Warnes et al. 2015).

According to the latest MedCu Laboratory Report “Determination of Antimicrobial Efficacy of MedCu Masks following 7 sequential inoculations of Klebsiella pneumoniae” the mask presents very good efficacy (> 99.9%) and does not deteriorate with time even after 7 days.

DUAL SIDE EFFECT


The mask itself is made out of three layers. The outer layer prevents droplets from entering and holds microscopic copper oxide polymers. The middle layer traps small particles that may pass through the outer layer. It also prevents the flow of particles outward. The inner layer is close to the nose and mouth and was designed to absorb moisture, also holds microscopic copper oxide polymers.
